We get so focused on training, doing, and progressing that we can easily sap all the joy out of riding. I know I can be guilty myself of being overly serious.
Today I watched both my horses play in a cold stream as we were passing through and remembered to stop and just listen. The sound of the water moving, the sound of the wind in the trees, and the sound of my horses drinking and pawing in the water was enough. I didn’t need anything more, just their company was enough.
It’s amazing what happens when we are mentally still and in the moment.
